On November 15th, world-renown master balisong vendor, Diosdado "Mang Dado" Ona, passed away. Mang Dado has been the face of the Batangas-made balisong and is considered to be its culture keeper. He is known internationally for his high-quality balisongs and people would visit his shop from around the world. He worked with some of the best balisong makers and bladesmiths in Batangas and has continued to play a huge role in the perseverance of the industry. Mang Dado loved life and had a huge heart that came out in his smile, humor, and playfulness. He was already a legend and was well-loved by his local and global community.
Mang Dado's family is continuing to run his balisong shop in Taal, Batangas. Visit their shop to support his family and legacy.
A week after the passing of Mang Dado, one of the most talented balisong makers in Taal, Mang Teddy, also passed away. He was the brother-in-law of the reknown balisong makers, the Bautista Brothers, who all worked very closely with Mang Dado and greatly contributed to his reputation of selling the highest quality balisongs and who all worked together to preserve the culture of the Batangas-made balisong.
Mang Teddy designed the balisongs below which he made for KNB's founder, Ron Cariño. He also taught Ron the extensive process of making balisongs.
The passing of both Mang Teddy and Mang Dado have left a hole in the Batangas balisong community that can never be filled. We honor them by continuing to preserve their life's work and legacy.
KNB balisongs are currently only available in the Philippines. Due to the different laws in other countries, we are unable to accept international orders at this time.
